A big plus for young people in getting to grips with finance

The CISI’s Educational Trust has awarded its largest grant - to boost financial awareness among young people in Scotland.

The Trust, the CISI’s education charity, has given the £45,000 award to the Stewart Ivory Financial Educational Programme (SIFEP) as part of a three-year sponsorship.

SIFEP provides financial education to school leavers throughout Scotland. In the last academic year its financial education officers visited 223 schools and spoke to around 15,000 students, with over 800 separate sessions.

In addition to the grant, the CISI is donating copies of its #yourmoney book, which provides a comprehensive introduction to personal finance for young people, to 15,000 Scots students annually via SIFEP.

Strong advocate

CISI Chief Executive Simon Culhane, Chartered FCSI said: “The CISI is a strong advocate for equipping young adults with the financial knowledge they need to succeed in life and we work closely with many schools and colleges whose students take our professional qualifications. The CISI Educational Trust believes the Stewart Ivory Financial Education Programme aligns with our objectives in respect of financial education and we are delighted to be supporting SIFEP in its work with Scots schools, colleges and universities.”

Hamish Buchan, Chair of SIFEP, pictured, right, said: “We welcome the CISI’s generous sponsorship to support our financial education programme focused mainly on school leavers in Scotland. The financial issues facing young people continue to be highly challenging. Therefore, the need to raise the financial awareness of young people to enable them to deal with these issues with more competence and confidence, especially at this critical stage in their lives, remains as great as ever.”
