Central figure: Read our profile on Iain Saville

In the September print edition of the Review, we profile a man who has been a pioneer in the development and harmonisation of European settlement systems

Few people, if any, have done more to harmonise securities settlement than Iain Saville FCSI(Hon). During a long and distinguished career, Saville led the creation of CREST, one the world’s largest and most sophisticated securities settlement systems. He has also been a key mover in the development of Target2Securities (T2S), an initiative that aims to achieve stronger financial integration and a true European single market.

In an interview in our September print edition, Saville explains why he sees T2S as an “honourable descendant” of CREST.

“It has the same ‘one-size-fits-all’ goals and many of the same characteristics,” he told the Review. “Its infrastructure is designed to promote competition and it has the same flexibilities as CREST, which is important, because both features allow people to innovate.”

Saville, who today works as Independent Director of BNY Mellon’s new European Central Securities Depository and as an Independent Non-Executive Director of EuroCCP, also reflects on managing foreign currency reserves for the Bank of England, his new challenge of chairing risk committees, and his passion for singing.

Read about Saville’s career, and much more, in the September print edition of the Review.
