The focus of the Group on European legislation resulted in it holding a lively debate on bank separation requirements in the UK, EU, France and Germany, with heavyweight bank and FCA representation on the Panel, and another practitioner benchmarking event on ‘How to prepare for MiFID II’, where both sell-side and buy-side were well represented by a panel from large and smaller companies. Very timely.
In parallel, there are two instructive spotlight interviews made especially for CISI TV on Europe. The first is an
interview by Daniel Trinder, Global Head of International Affairs at Deutsche Bank, with Thomas Huertas, former alternate Chair of the European Banking Authority and former Executive member of the FSA, on key topical prudential issues; the second is an interview by Martin Watkins, Chartered FCSI, the Chairman of the Group, with David Doyle, who is very knowledgeable about the inner workings of rule-making in the EU, and the new Parliament. Both will shortly be available on
CISI TV.
2015 is an exciting year for the Group. It will continue its programme of events with a practitioner EU focus, particularly MiFID II. So far we have held the event described earlier on what to do now to prepare for MiFID II; in March a combined exchange/sell-side/buy-side panel will discuss its impact on markets, and in June we will do the same for changes to conduct of business and investor protection. This second one will have panellists from both larger and smaller firms.
Even more exciting, the Interest Group will be placed on a formal permanent footing following its successful two-year build up, by becoming a CISI Professional Forum with all the infrastructure that the CISI provides to support them. We are very grateful to the members of the organising committee and especially to its Chairman, Martin Watkins, for this achievement.
