With consumers globally experiencing the stresses and strains of navigating the emotional, health and financial fallout of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI) appreciates more than ever this year the importance of supporting the FPSB’s World Financial Planning Day Wednesday 7 October.

For the fourth year, CISI, the not-for-profit, global professional body for those working in financial planning, wealth management and capital markets, is supporting World Financial Planning Day (WFPD). Organised by the Financial Planning Standards Board (FPSB) the event takes place during the International Organization of Securities Commissions’ (IOSCO) World Investor Week (#WIW2020) 5 -11 October.

The FPSB initiated World Financial Planning Day as part of an ongoing global initiative to increase consumers’ financial literacy, capability, and to help consumers understand how financial planning can add value. The lead theme this yearLive your today. Plan your tomorrow. is supported by four key features: financial planning is accessible, a financial plan is personalised for individual needs, there is security in controlling a financial plan and a CFP™ professional is on hand to support.

This year FPSB hosted a global video contest for consumers to enter.  Consumers who were asked to record a short video in response to the question How could professional financial planning help you plan your tomorrow? Entrants had the chance to win one of five USD $1000 prizes. For CFP™ professionals there will be a worldwide live virtual panel event hosted on the day exploring surviving and thriving in uncertain times, as well as nurturing client relationships in the ‘new normal’.

World Investor Week is organised by IOSCO to raise awareness about the importance of investor education and protection. During the week of 5 – 11 October securities regulators on six continents will provide a variety of activities, including investor-focused communications and services, increasing awareness of investor
education initiatives, workshops and conferences, and conducting campaigns in their own jurisdictions.

Jacqueline Lockie, Chartered FCSI, CISI Head of Financial Planning said: “This year it is particularly important for CISI to be supporting the global financial planning initiative for World Financial Planning Day and World Investor Week. So many consumers have suffered financial distress and uncertainty as a result of the pandemic.  We will be joining the global FPSB network of organisations in 26 countries and territories, representing over 188,100 CFP professionals, to support these initiatives to help encourage and promote consumer awareness and understanding of how financial planning can help consumers.”

World Financial Planning Day will run during the UK Financial Planning Week which takes place between 5 – 11 October 2020. During this week, the CISI encourages consumers nationwide to connect with financial planners and Certified Financial PlannerTM  professionals for an hour long, free session, view tips and tools, and learn more about how true financial planning can be a life changing experience at cisi.org/fpweek

The CISI will be encouraging its financial planning members to support World Financial Planning Day 7 October and World Investor Week by:

  • Showing their support for the campaign by sharing financial planning tips and best practice on social media using #WFPD2020 and #WIW2020
  • Following the aims of #WFPD for #FPWUK, commencing this year 5 – 11 October 2020.
