CISI signs education agreement with Panama Securities Regulator

140616PanamaphotoThe Panama Securities Regulator (The Superintendencia del Mercado de Valores or SMV) and the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI), have signed an education cooperation agreement.

The document was signed by the Securities Market Superintendent, Marelissa Quintero de Stanziola, and Simon Culhane, Chartered FCSI and CISI CEO in the presence of Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Republic of Panama Ian Frank Collard.

The agreement means that the CISI will support SMV with the organisation of events and the promotion of the value of professionalism in the securities market, particularly as it relates to qualifications, continuing professional development (CPD), integrity and ethics.

The CISI has an established representative presence in Latin America, with many of its professional qualifications available via self-study in Spanish and English*.

The agreement will ensure that CISI’s expertise in the area of qualifications and professionalism is promoted to SMV employees, industry professionals, students, investors and the general public.

The CISI is a not-for-profit professional membership body, whose mission is to set standards of professional excellence and integrity for the securities, investment, wealth and financial planning professions, providing qualifications and promoting the highest level of competence to its members, other individuals and firms.

During the signing ceremony, Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Republic of Panama Ian Frank Collard expressed his satisfaction for the signing of this agreement which allows the further strengthening of the collaboration between the two countries.

Simon Culhane, Chartered FCSI and CISI CEO, stressed that the CISI was keen to help raise professional and ethical standards in the Panamanian securities market for the benefit of young people, established practitioners and the market in general.

Marelissa Quintero de Stanziola, Superintendent of the SMV thanked both Her Majesty’s Ambassador and the CISI Chief Executive for supporting this initiative, which helps the SMV to accomplish the educational mission as the securities market regulator.  

With the signing of this agreement, made possible via the Investment Education Unit of the SMV, the CISI joins a select group of education organisations in Panama helping to develop training and qualifications to boost an investment culture, thus the enhancement of the Panamanian securities market.
