CISI Educational Trust awards totalling £23,000 announced

The Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI) is delighted to announce the 18 student winners of its 2018 Educational Trust Awards.

The CISI Educational Trust Awards annually celebrate achievement amongst students studying CISI accredited courses around the UK, at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. The winners received a combined total of £23,000.

Each of the winners were nominated by their university based on excellence in an item of work or examination. 

In addition to their nomination, each winner was invited to submit an essay of 400 words for the opportunity to attend an interview with the Educational Trust and a chance to achieve a further financial award based on interview performance, general knowledge test, and knowledge of the CISI. The essay title for 2017 was: "What is MiFID II? Who gains and who loses from its introduction?”

Following an intensive interview process, we are delighted to congratulate Joseph Teasdale  the top performing postgraduate who received an additional £2,000 and Charles Thomas, top performing undergraduate, who received an additional award of £1,500.

Anton Immonen and Jack Molley received £500 each meanwhile Yungyen Wang and David Salisbury also received £1,500 in recognition of high interview standard.

The top performing students were invited to attend the CISI Annual Awards Ceremony Monday 9^th April 2018 at Mansion House to receive an Award.

On receipt of his award Joseph Teasdale said: It was a privilege to be nominated to the CISI. I am delighted to be one of this years’ CISI Educational Trust Award winners. This achievement would not have been possible without the time and contributions given by the trustees, the institute and its members. Both CISI qualifications and being part of the CISI are valuable commodities within the industry. It fills me with pride to be chosen as a CISI ambassador to uphold its mission of professional excellence and integrity. This award will be a lasting record of my outstanding achievement for years to come.

Charles Thomas studying at Northumbria University said: I was thrilled to be announced as the top performing undergraduate award winner, the interview stage was a challenging but thoroughly fulfilling experience. The day also acted as a fantastic opportunity with the trustees who provided thought-provoking insights on the world of finance.

Clare Gore Langton, Chartered FCSI(Hon), Chairman CISI Educational Trust, an investment director with over 25 years of experience of working with private client investment portfolios said: “This year’s essay topic was MiFID II and the discussion subject  Cryptocurrencies  The trustees enjoyed a thoroughly stimulating morning of discussion with a very strong field of candidates.  The work submitted by both under graduates and post graduates was of a high calibre”

“In most cases progress was also made in the general knowledge area, but this still needs to be of a higher standard.  This year’s awards went to worthy winners who have agreed to be CISI ambassadors for the years to come.”

The following students, as CISI Educational Trust Award winners, each receive a financial award to support ambitions for a financial services career. Postgraduate winners receive £1,000 each and undergraduates £500 each.
